From March 22nd, World Water Day until April 22nd (Earth Day), the Composting Month seeks to position this practice as a sustainable solution to the generation of waste.

In the city of Rafaela (Santa Fe), the Institute for Sustainable Development of Rafaela (IDSR) joins this global initiative promoted by the UN, with actions to encourage composting in households and institutions.

Impact of Composting in Rafaela

According to Enrique Soffietti, director of the IDSR, each person in Rafaela generates around 800 grams of waste per day, half of which is organic.

Transforming these waste into natural fertilizer through composting not only significantly reduces daily garbage, but also extends the lifespan of landfill cells.

The “Thousand Compost Bins” Campaign

This year, the IDSR launches the “Thousand Compost Bins” campaign, which aims to register 1,000 new composting devices in the city.

Participants can join construction workshops, gardening talks, distribution of informative material, and awareness-raising activities. The goal is to promote citizen participation and turn composting into a daily habit.

Resources and Contact

The IDSR provides a composting guide and publishes dates and information on its social networks (@idsrafaela on Instagram and Facebook) and on the website www.rafaelasustentable.com.ar.

In addition, those interested can contact by phone at (03492) 504579, by WhatsApp at (03492) 15507915, or by email at [email protected].

What is Composting?

Composting is a natural process that transforms organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer, promoting the circular economy and reducing the amount of waste sent to final disposal.

With this campaign, the IDSR reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and connection with nature’s cycles.
