Emerald Lagoon is located about 20 kilometers from Ushuaia, in the province of Tierra del Fuego. This natural treasure is easily accessible from National Route 3, where a marked trail known as “Laguna Esmeralda Trailhead” begins. Although there is no public transportation to the starting point, it is possible to access it by car or through transportation apps.
An unforgettable journey: what to do at Emerald Lagoon
The trek to the lagoon is an enriching experience that combines effort and spectacular landscapes. The round trip trail has an approximate length of 8.7 kilometers and passes through:

How to get to Emerald Lagoon, Tierra del Fuego?
Access to Emerald Lagoon is just 12 kilometers from the city exit, near the “Valle de Lobos” winter center. There you can take a taxi or regular transportation departing from the city center (Juana Fadul and Maipu).
The trail is fully marked with no possibility of getting lost, but it’s always important to pay attention to the tree markings. The area surrounding the lagoon features all kinds of terrain, from paths through the forest to peat bogs depending on the season, taking the necessary precautions to enjoy the excursion. Starting from National Route 3, the walk can last about two hours if the pace is slow, as it’s about 9 kilometers round trip.
