Perito Moreno National Park launches a comprehensive ecotourism management system with a public-private model

On July 17, the comprehensive ecotourism management system was launched at Perito Moreno National Park (Santa Cruz).

The initiative will be implemented by the Fundación Banco de Bosques, with authorization from the National Parks Administration (APN), and constitutes the first non-profit tourism concession within the national system of protected areas.

The event took place at the Patagonia store in Buenos Aires, with the participation of APN authorities such as Pablo Ciocchini, Juan Filgueira Risso, Guillermo Díaz Cornejo, and Javier Fernández, along with the president of Banco de Bosques, Pedro Friedrich, and its executive director, Emiliano Ezcurra.

What the project includes

The management model includes:

• Refuges and domes for hikers.
• Organized campsites in strategic areas.
• Areas for motorhomes with basic services.
• An online reservation system already available for trails and refuges.
• Volunteer work throughout the year in trail maintenance, facilities, and visitor services, in coordination with the park rangers.

Main objectives

• Strengthen sustainable ecotourism in remote areas.
• Organize public use and improve the visitor experience.
• Reinvest all generated resources in infrastructure, maintenance, and conservation.
• Channel private investment into essential services, reducing the need for additional public resources.
