The Municipality of Córdoba intensified this week the tasks of cleaning throughout the city, with a record deployment of more than 70 teams working simultaneously. The operation aimed at the recovery of public spaces and the elimination of micro and macro landfills, which contained tons of waste, in order to improve the environmental and urban quality for the residents.
Between Monday and Friday, 3,050 tons of waste illegally dumped in different areas of the city were removed, including key areas such as the Costanera, the central area, and more than 40 spaces with illegal dumping. To put the magnitude of this intervention into perspective, it is worth noting that Córdoba generates about 1,500 tons of urban solid waste (RSU) per day, which means the equivalent of two full days of household waste was cleaned up.
In addition to landfill cleaning, more than 3 million square meters of green areas – representing about 300 city blocks – were cleared, and a hundred storm drains distributed in different sectors of the city were unclogged. Three drain cleaning trucks were used for this task, operating in rotating shifts.
One of the highlighted actions took place in the Bella Vista neighborhood, next to La Cañada, where besides cleaning, a guardrail was installed to discourage future illegal waste dumping.
### Integral Intervention at the Costanera
The Costanera was one of the priority points of the operation. Throughout its entire extension, a work team made up of the Costanera Executive Unit (UEC) and urban servers, with the support of three Bobcat mini-loaders and four dump trucks, was deployed.
The actions included intensive cleaning of the Isla de los Patos, the removal of waste in the vicinity of the Sagrada Familia Bridge and the Zípoli Bridge, as well as the weeding and conditioning of the Suquía riverbank.
From the municipality, they emphasized the importance of these tasks to enhance public spaces and ensure cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable environments for all Cordobeses. The sustained effort in urban cleaning also aims to raise public awareness and promote a more respectful coexistence with the environment.
### Córdoba, awarded among the world’s healthy cities
Córdoba was recognized among those known as healthy cities in the world and received an award from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The capital of the eponymous province was distinguished together with Fortaleza, Brazil, and Manchester, United Kingdom.
The three cities share, under the organization’s perspective, a healthy vision for their residents with smoke-free parks, clean air initiatives, and school lunches to combat obesity.
