Educating to Give Love: Responsible Adoption Talks in La Plata Schools

Most read

Students and administrators of San Pío School, located in the district of La Plata, welcomed the organization “Rescatistas La Plata”, who are carrying out an awareness program about responsible pet ownership. This consists of a series of open and free talks on responsible adoption that involve schools and neighborhood organizations to deepen respect and care for animals.

According to Margarita Zitta, a member of the animal protection organization, this initiative arose with the intention of educating children from a young age on how to treat animals. She also added that this is one way to contribute to improving animal welfare.

The project called “awareness of responsible pet ownership” not only seeks to foster a more empathetic view towards animals, but also aims to raise awareness on other issues. In this sense, the organization has set out to remind and emphasize the importance of caring for these companion animals, such as feeding, vaccinations, and veterinary check-ups.

But this project is nothing new. For the past 5 years, the organization has been rescuing animals in situations of street, abandonment, and abuse, in order to help them recover and find them a new home where they can receive the love they deserve.

Adopting, an act of love that benefits everyone

The talk on responsible pet adoption helps to understand the numerous benefits of adoption for the owner, the pet, and the community. Among them, they highlight the reduction of stress and anxiety, improvement of physical health, stimulation of social activity, the possibility of strengthening family bonds, support for organizations of animal rescue, and the opportunity to give a second chance to a needy animal.

Benefits for the owner

  • Reduction of stress and anxiety: Having a pet can lower stress, anxiety, and depression levels, thanks to the interaction and unconditional love they provide.

  • Improvement of physical health: Walking and playing with the pet promote physical activity, which in turn improves cardiovascular health and mood.

  • Increased social activity: Having a pet facilitates interaction with other people, especially in public places like parks or walking areas.

  • Strengthening family bonds: Adopting a pet can bring the family closer together, as everyone can participate in its care and attention.

  • Boost in self-esteem: The company, affection, and care received by an adopted pet can help it regain confidence and self-esteem.

  • Life-changing: Adoption can change an animal’s life, transitioning from a place of abandonment or stress to a home filled with love and security.

  • Stronger emotional bond: The pet often develops a special bond with its new owner, showing affection and gratitude for being adopted.

Benefits for the community

  • Reduction of animal overpopulation: Adopting instead of buying helps reduce the number of animals in shelters and combats overpopulation.
