Warm winter getaways: Argentine Mesopotamia offers hot springs, wildlife, art, rainforest, and more.

While in much of the country winter brings about low temperatures, the Argentine Mesopotamia becomes a thermal oasis with maximum temperatures exceeding 25°C in July.

Ideal for those who want to escape the cold without going too far, the region offers a range of options that combine thermal baths, gastronomy, biodiversity, and living culture.

1. Entre Ríos: thermal baths, passport, and #CapybaraMode

The province launched its winter season in Buenos Aires with the #CapybaraMode campaign. Inspired by the symbol of peace and nature that this animal represents. “Vacationing in capybara mode” sums up the proposal: thermal relaxation, wine routes, rural life, and Argentine history, all in proximity to the province of Buenos Aires.

The Entre Ríos Passport, downloadable from the official website, offers benefits and discounts at thermal parks, accommodations, and restaurants. Towns like Colón, Villa Elisa, and San José promote circuits with multiple pools (some at 32°C), spas, regional cuisine, and cultural proposals linked to the country’s history, such as the Urquiza estates or immigrant colonies.

2. Corrientes: wetlands, chamamé music, and lots of magic

In Guarani, payé means magic, and Corrientes showcases that charm with proposals focused on the Iberá Wetlands, one of the most important wetlands in South America. Accessible from Colonia Carlos Pellegrini (Portal Laguna Iberá) or Ituzaingó. The wetlands offer boat trips among caimans, capybaras, and marsh deer, guided walks, and birdwatching of over 400 bird species.

The circuit is complemented by regional cuisine promoted by the Chefs of Iberá. A movement that revalues local flavors: chipás, lamb stews, pacú fish, sweets, and mate tea cakes.

With maximum temperatures of up to 27°C in July, it is an excellent option for those seeking white sandy beaches, lush nature, and cultural experiences with identity.

3. Chaco: sculptures, forests, and legendary skies

Resistencia, the capital of Chaco, is an open-air museum with over 660 urban sculptures, home to the International Sculpture Biennial and cultural gems like El Fogón de los Arrieros. But winter is also an ideal time to venture into the El Impenetrable National Park, where glamping, camping, and eco-lodges offer a total immersion in the heart of the Chaco forest.

From Villa Castelli to the area of La Armonía, the journeys include river exploration, interpretive walks, and wildlife observation. Other destinations such as Campo del Cielo —with remains of one of the world’s largest meteorites—, the Sáenz Peña thermal baths, or the Chaco National Park also add to the experience. Temperatures, between 21 and 22°C, are perfect for reconnecting with the environment.

4. Misiones: jungle, culture, and the power of water

With temperatures of up to 27°C, Misiones offers more than just the Iguazú Falls. Puerto Iguazú, in the northeastern tip of the country, stands out as a vibrant destination for nightlife, local cuisine, and eco-cultural activities. From the Triple Frontier Monument to the artisan fair, the city invites you to explore at a leisurely pace.

The Iguazú National Park requires at least two days to enjoy the ecological train, trails, photo safaris, and boat rides among the waterfalls.

In the outskirts, highlights include the Yryapú Reserve —with sustainable lodges in the middle of the jungle—, visits to Guaraní communities, and the unmissable Yerba Mate Route, where you can participate in tastings, visit farms, and see the production process in local cooperatives.
