The Directory of CAF –**Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean**– held its first meeting in Seville and announced the approval of USD 1.440 million for strategic projects in **Colombia**. The funds are aimed at key areas such as **energy**, **climate action**, air connectivity, urban mobility, and mental health, reflecting a comprehensive vision of **sustainable development**.
The decision represents a strong endorsement of the country, which maintains a historical relationship with the institution as a founding partner. The resources will be directed to initiatives that combine critical infrastructure with social programs, seeking to balance economic modernization with **environmental protection** and citizen well-being.
Among the highlighted operations are USD 350 million to support **climate action** and **biodiversity protection**, USD 150 million to improve access to mental health, and USD 240 million to strengthen air infrastructure in priority regions. These investments address urgent challenges and aim to have a direct impact on the population’s quality of life.
Colombia will also receive resources for **sustainable mobility projects** in Bogotá, framed within the District Development Plan “Bogotá Camina Segura,” which promotes safer, more inclusive, and **environmentally responsible** transportation systems. The focus on mobility is complemented by actions against climate change and greater resilience to extreme environmental events.

## The Importance of Comprehensive Development: Sustainability and Well-being
Addressing areas such as **energy, climate, transportation, and mental health** simultaneously reflects a shift in the development paradigm. It is no longer just about economic growth but ensuring that this progress is balanced and enduring, respecting **environmental limits** and meeting social needs.
Boosting **climate action** strengthens the country’s capacity to **reduce emissions**, **protect ecosystems**, and promote **sustainable finances**. These measures are crucial in a region facing high levels of **climate vulnerability** and relying on its **biodiversity** as a strategic asset.
Investment in air connectivity, on the other hand, aims to bridge gaps between regions and ensure more equitable access to opportunities. The modernization of **airport infrastructure** not only facilitates **transportation** but also improves the integration of remote communities, generating a positive impact on social cohesion and **regional development**.
The urban mobility component in Bogotá responds to one of the citizens’ main demands: having efficient and sustainable transportation systems. By prioritizing safety, inclusion, and **reducing the environmental footprint**, a city better prepared to face population growth and the challenges of **climate change** is projected.
## Mental Health as a Priority on the Public Agenda
Mental health, historically marginalized in public policies, now occupies a central place in the strategy supported by CAF. The allocation of resources will allow expanding service coverage, removing access barriers, and addressing **vulnerable populations**, especially in rural areas and communities traditionally excluded.
This investment sets a precedent as it recognizes the relationship between **emotional well-being and sustainable development**. A population with better mental health is better positioned to actively participate in the economy, strengthen social fabric, and adapt to present **environmental and urban challenges**.
Integrating **mental health** into a package of projects that also prioritizes **climate action** and **urban mobility** shows that development cannot be measured solely in investment figures or GDP growth. Sustainability demands addressing **both planet care** and people’s quality of life simultaneously.

## Colombia and Its Strategic Relationship with CAF
The alliance between **Colombia and CAF** is consolidated with these new approvals. By April 2025, the country’s sovereign portfolio with the bank amounted to USD 4.091 million, representing over 11% of the total. Between 2020 and 2024, approved operations reached USD 8.676.9 million, with disbursements exceeding USD 4.360 million.
This cooperation history reflects the central role Colombia plays in CAF’s development agenda. With the new resources, the country positions itself to move towards a more inclusive, resilient, and **ecologically responsible** future.
The approval of these funds confirms that **sustainable development** is a shared commitment. By integrating energy, climate action, transportation, and mental health into a unified strategy, Colombia aims to take a decisive step towards a model where prosperity and sustainability go hand in hand.
