Argentina is full of places renowned for tourism, one of them being the Perito Moreno Glacier. This place not only attracts tourists but also international attention, as it was nominated as the Main Tourist Attraction in South America at the South American edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025, known as the “Oscars of Tourism”.
Thus, the Perito Moreno Glacier consolidates itself as one of the most emblematic destinations in the continent. This is not the first nomination for this Argentine tourist attraction, as since 2018 it has been continuously competing in this category alongside the Iguazu Falls, Christ the Redeemer, and Machu Picchu.
However, it is not the only destination in Santa Cruz competing for this award, as El Chaltén is also nominated in two categories: “South America’s Leading Adventure Hotel” for Explora El Chaltén, and “Best Glamping Site” for Chaltén Camp.
Another Argentine tourist spot that will compete for the “Tourism Oscar” is El Calafate, a place that gains prestige with the nomination of Esplendor by Wyndham El Calafate as “South America’s Leading Boutique Hotel”.

“Tourism Oscar”
The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 with the aim of recognizing, rewarding, and celebrating excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry. These annual awards are celebrated with regional ceremonies on different continents and culminate in a worldwide Grand Final, where the winners compete against each other.
This year’s gala ceremony will take place this Saturday, September 27, in Cancun, Mexico, a date that coincides with World Tourism Day.
Furthermore, this year’s edition gave special importance to the public, who could participate in the award selection through online voting, where travelers from around the world could choose their favorites between April 1 and August 3.
The critical situation of glaciers in the world.
A Unique Natural Wonder
The Perito Moreno Glacier, located in the Los Glaciares National Park in Santa Cruz, stands out for its imposing ice front that reaches 60 meters in height and 5 kilometers in width. Its constant advance and retreat create spectacular breakages, a natural phenomenon that attracts visitors from all over the world.
The surrounding environment enhances its appeal: turquoise waters of Lake Argentino, Andean Patagonian forests, and snowy mountains form a landscape of great scenic beauty. This combination makes the glacier a privileged setting for contemplation and photography.
Moreover, the accessibility through walkways, viewpoints, and nautical excursions allows for a close appreciation of the glacier’s magnitude. These features, combined with its natural dynamism, make Perito Moreno a unique tourist destination and an emblem of Argentine Patagonia.
