The Province of Buenos Aires sends aid to Patagonia in response to the emergency caused by fires: adds brigades and heavy equipment

Faced with the emergency due to the forest fires affecting Patagonia, the Province of Buenos Aires deployed an assistance operation to collaborate in the fight against the fire.

The Buenos Aires administration, led by Axel Kicillof, activated an emergency plan involving support with brigade members and heavy equipment.

The measure responded to a direct request from the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE), the federal agency that coordinates situations of this type.

Buenos Aires acted within the framework of the Federal Fire Management System, a national coordination mechanism.

Governor Axel Kicillof ordered the immediate dispatch of human and logistical resources to the south of the country. The decision was made following the formal request and approval of the federal agency.

The forest fires in Patagonia and the emergency in Chubut

Faced with the emergency due to the fires in Patagonia, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security mobilized a team of 40 combatants specialized in extinguishing forest fires.

These professionals belong to the Provincial Directorate of Civil Defense and operate in high-complexity areas.

The dispatched team included chainsaw operators, pump operators, and tactical personnel. All members carried certifications and equipment to operate in hard-to-reach terrains.

The Province allocated these resources as part of a coordinated response to the emergency generated by the fires that persist in the Patagonian region.

The equipment and vehicles destined for the south

To face the complex topography of Chubut, Buenos Aires sent a fleet of 17 vehicles adapted to the situation.

In particular, each unit was selected according to the conditions of the terrain and proximity to the active fires.

  • 14 pickup trucks (4×2 and 4×4) for rapid transport and field logistics.
  • A 4×4 URO Fire Truck, a high-capacity unit designed for deep penetration in hostile terrains.
  • Two UTV Vehicles with a forest kit, necessary to reach the so-called red zones where conventional vehicles cannot operate.

The URO Fire Truck stands out for its maneuverability on irregular and steep surfaces.

Meanwhile, the UTVs allow access to more remote areas of the Patagonian terrain.

The entire fleet was checked before deployment to ensure its operation in adverse field conditions.

The logistical operation was coordinated between provincial authorities and the federal agency, all within a short timeframe.

The target areas and how the fire behaves

The Buenos Aires contingent arrived with a priority objective: the fire in Puerto Patriada and the Laguna Villarino sector.

In both areas, the emergency situation was classified as extreme by provincial authorities due to the behavior of the fires.

In these areas, the terrain conditions and the intensity of the flames greatly hindered control. The brigade members worked continuously to contain the active fires during the last few days.

The collaboration represents an example of federal solidarity within the framework of the climate crisis shaking the Patagonian region.

This is because the forest fire outbreaks that have persisted for weeks forced the activation of national emergency response mechanisms.

Following the support, the official report of the operation highlighted that “the collaboration constitutes an example of solidarity and professionalism”.
