BYD breaks records with the new Blade Battery: an ultra-fast charging system that promises to transform electric vehicles

The Chinese automaker BYD presented in Shenzhen the second generation of the Blade Battery, along with an ultra-fast charging system that promises to transform the electric vehicle experience.

This advancement aims to address two of the sector’s main challenges: prolonged recharge times and limited performance in extreme climates.

Charging Records

The new battery achieves unprecedented figures in the industry:

  • From 10% to 70% charge in just 5 minutes.
  • Up to 97% energy in only 9 minutes.
  • In conditions of -30 °C, the charging time from 20% to 97% increases by just three minutes compared to normal temperatures.

These results set a new global standard in recharge speed and operational stability.

Research and Development

The project is the result of six years of research. BYD faced the challenge of combining high energy density with fast charging, a technical dilemma that has limited the industry.

The new Blade Battery increases energy density by 5% compared to the first generation, improving autonomy without sacrificing charging speed.

Models and Autonomy

The DENZA Z9 GT is one of the first models to incorporate this technology, reaching an autonomy of 1,036 kilometers thanks to the Blade battery and an optimized weight body. This data positions the vehicle as one of the most competitive in the global electric market.

Safety and Thermal Management

BYD also developed innovations to ensure safety:

  • A high-speed lithium-ion channel.
  • An intelligent thermal management system, which reduces heat generation and improves dissipation during charging.

These solutions aim to prevent overheating risks and prolong the battery’s lifespan.

Charging Infrastructure

In parallel, the company presented a 1,500 kW ultra-fast charger, considered one of the most powerful in the world. Additionally, it announced a plan to install 20,000 ultra-fast charging stations in China and expand the network internationally before the end of 2026.

This infrastructure deployment is key to supporting the massive adoption of electric vehicles, eliminating one of the main concerns of users: recharge time.

Global Impact

With this advancement, BYD seeks to accelerate the energy transition and establish itself as a leader in the electric mobility market. The combination of extended autonomy, advanced safety, and ultra-fast charging makes the Blade Battery a technological benchmark that could redefine industry standards.

The second generation of the Blade Battery marks a milestone in the history of electric vehicles. What once seemed a technical limit —charging in minutes and maintaining performance in extreme climates— now becomes a reality. BYD not only offers a more efficient battery but also deploys the necessary infrastructure to make electrification practical and accessible globally.
