During this week of July, the northern wind is causing a notable increase in temperatures in central and northern Argentina, replacing the polar air that predominated in the country.
From cold to heat and back to cold
According to Meteored, this thermal increase will not only raise temperatures up to 12°C above average for this time of year, but it will also generate conditions of high humidity of subtropical origin. These conditions are ideal for the development of severe storms at the end of the week.
The beginning of the month was characterized by frosts and below-zero temperatures, but now, with the wind shifting to the north, an unusually warm climate for winter is expected. This change has been consolidating since Monday, according to Meteored data, with highs exceeding 20°C in the Pampas area, even reaching spring-like values in the north of the country.
In the AMBA, the change will be noticeable. After weeks of frosts, temperatures in Buenos Aires and surrounding areas will begin to rise, driven by northern winds, leading residents to set aside their heavy coats.
Friday will mark a turning point when a cold front from Patagonia advances towards the center of the country. This clash with the warm and humid air will create conditions for the formation of storm clouds with great vertical development.
The provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe will be the first to feel the change, with isolated showers and wind gusts exceeding 50 km/h from Thursday night.
Friday and Saturday anticipate storms of varying intensity in the Mesopotamian region and northeast of Buenos Aires, with possible heavy rains and electrical activity, and hail is not ruled out.
Authorities are monitoring weather models for possible official alerts. The volume of water over the weekend is expected to temporarily affect cities and agricultural activity in the core zone.
After the rains, the wind will shift to the south, causing a temperature drop and returning the central region to winter and stable conditions at the beginning of the next week.
