La Rioja promotes the recovery of public spaces with lighting, cleaning, and community composters

The Environmental Services Institute (ISA) of the province of La Rioja continues to expand the Healthy Blocks program, which aims to recover public spaces, improve environmental conditions, and promote community participation.

In this stage, teams are working in neighborhoods such as Virgen Desatanudos, Agrario, Argentino, 129 Viviendas, Las Talas, and Loteo San Andrés, carrying out cleaning, weeding, and conditioning of areas designated for community activities.

Public Lighting and Safety

The interventions are supported by EDELAR, which performs maintenance and repair of public lighting.

These improvements enhance safety and encourage the recovered spaces to be used again by families and neighbors for recreational, sports, and cultural activities.

Community Composting and Circular Economy

As part of the next stage, ISA will install community composters to promote the use of organic waste, reduce the amount of garbage generated, and encourage practices related to the circular economy.

The initiative will be accompanied by composting workshops and environmental education activities alongside local institutions and organizations.

Civic Participation and Environmental Management

ISA President, Christian Albrecht, highlighted that the program is consolidating as a management tool that integrates environmental policies with citizen participation.

The territorial presence allows for building solutions together with the neighbors and identifying specific needs of each sector to guide future public policies.

Environmental Benefits

  • Air purification: plants fix carbon dioxide (CO₂) and release oxygen.
  • Thermal mitigation: they reduce the impact of high temperatures in the arid region.
  • Water management: they optimize the use of water resources through efficient systems like drip irrigation.

Social and Community Impact

  • Eradication of dumps: they transform vacant lots into clean and safe places.
  • Safety and gathering: they create recreational and sports sites for families.
  • Civic participation: they promote environmental education and joint work between neighbors and the State.

Future Projection

The Healthy Blocks program seeks to consolidate a working methodology based on territorial presence and coordination between public agencies, institutions, and neighbors.

The recovery of green spaces in La Rioja is key to improving urban quality of life, combating water scarcity through proper ecological management, and strengthening community integration.

Additionally, these actions are part of a broader provincial strategy aimed at:

  • Environmental education in schools and community centers.
  • Strengthening community health through cleaner and safer environments.
  • Promoting sustainable practices that integrate production, responsible consumption, and recycling.

La Rioja is advancing with an environmental management model that combines cleaning, lighting, composting, and community participation.

The Healthy Blocks program is consolidating as a public policy that integrates sustainability, safety, and community, offering concrete responses to the urban and environmental challenges of the province.
