Digital platform for responsible adoption: an academic project integrating adopters, tutors, and veterinarians

The brand-new systems analyst Máximo Gigena developed a website that centralizes responsible adoption and the health history of dogs and cats. The tool, created as a final project at the Faculty of Exact Sciences of the UNaM (Apóstoles), aims to solve a common problem: the dispersion of information about pet care.

The platform integrates adopters, guardians, and veterinarians into a single system, allowing each animal to have an updated and accessible digital history. In this way, the pet’s life is accompanied from the moment of adoption, ensuring comprehensive monitoring.

System Operation

The software was conceived as a web application with different user profiles:

  • Adopters: can locate animals available in their geographic area.
  • Guardians: manage their pets’ information in a unique digital space.
  • Veterinarians: record check-ups, vaccinations, surgeries, pregnancies, and other medical procedures.

The proposal concentrates in one place data that today are often scattered among health booklets, private records, and veterinary clinics.

Personal Motivation

Gigena explained that the idea was born from a personal experience: years ago, he had to give his dog “Tere” up for adoption. That event motivated him to transform the pain into motivation and create a tool that facilitates responsible adoption and comprehensive animal monitoring.

“The reason I finished the platform was because of Tere. It hurt me a lot to give her up for adoption, but I took that experience and turned it into motivation,” he recounted.

The responsible adoption platform allows for comprehensive tracking of animals, improving the experience for guardians and adopters.

Benefits of the Proposal

  • Data Centralization: prevents the dispersion and loss of information.
  • Veterinary Monitoring: allows professionals to upload information in real-time.
  • Geographic Access: facilitates the adoption of animals near the user’s area.
  • Health Prevention: improves the control of vaccinations and medical procedures.
  • Transparency: each guardian can consult the complete history of their pet.

Future Projection

Although it was born as an academic project, Gigena plans to turn the platform into a mobile app to expand its reach and practical application. The initiative is shaping up as a technological tool with the potential to impact the community, promoting responsible adoption and comprehensive pet care.

Additionally, the system could be integrated with municipal animal control programs, vaccination campaigns, and shelters, creating a collaborative network that strengthens public health and animal welfare.

The platform developed by Máximo Gigena is an example of how technology can respond to concrete social needs.

By integrating adopters, guardians, and veterinarians into a single system, responsibility in adoption is strengthened, and more efficient health monitoring for dogs and cats is ensured.
