A survey by the National University of La Plata highlighted the district for its sustained growth over the last decade. The study identifies San Vicente within the group of “Leader” municipalities of the province, driven by construction, commerce, and territorial planning that consolidated its expansion.
A report prepared by the Sectoral and Territorial Development Laboratory of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the National University of La Plata (UNLP) placed San Vicente among the “Leader” municipalities of the province of Buenos Aires, recognizing its sustained economic growth over the last decade and the continuity of this process in the most recent period analyzed.
The work, titled “Productive Chains in the Municipalities of the Province of Buenos Aires in the Last Decade”, evaluated the behavior of 63 productive chains in the 135 municipalities of Buenos Aires between 2016 and 2025. The study distinguishes those districts that managed to grow above the provincial average throughout the decade and, at the same time, sustain that growth in the last year surveyed.
In that select group of best performers appears San Vicente, along with other municipalities that managed to consolidate a process of sustained economic expansion, becoming one of the most dynamic districts in the province.
Unlike other analyses based solely on general indicators, the UNLP report studies the functioning of productive chains that generate added value in each district, allowing for more precise identification of the real drivers of local economic growth.
In the case of San Vicente, the report notes that the main impetus comes from construction and commerce, activities closely linked to the strong urban growth recorded in recent years. The expansion of neighborhoods, subdivisions, housing, infrastructure, and new services generated a multiplier effect on various sectors of the local economy.
The researchers emphasize that this performance is not due to an isolated event, but to a sustained transformation process. Among the factors explaining the district’s leadership are demographic growth, the availability of land for new developments, connectivity with the metropolitan area, and territorial planning that allowed for expansion with infrastructure and services.
The report also highlights a distinctive feature of San Vicente compared to other municipalities in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area: while much of the first belt faces difficulties due to the decline of traditional industrial sectors, San Vicente managed to grow without bearing those declining productive structures, consolidating a dynamic economy based on new investments and urban development.
This academic recognition coincides with a transformation process that San Vicente has been undergoing for almost seven years, under the leadership of Mayor Nicolás Mantegazza. During this period, the municipality has promoted a strategic growth plan, with significant investments in infrastructure, education, health, security, connectivity, and urban development, accompanied by public policies aimed at creating conditions to attract investments and improve the quality of life of residents.
In this context, the consolidation of San Vicente among the leading municipalities of the province also represents support for the direction taken by the municipal administration. It is no coincidence that in the 2023 elections, Nicolás Mantegazza was the mayor of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area with the highest percentage of votes, reflecting the strong support of the community for a development model that today also finds recognition in a study prepared by one of the country’s most prestigious public universities.
Furthermore, the report states that the next challenge will be to transform this growth into an increasingly diversified economic matrix. In this regard, it identifies concrete opportunities to enhance sectors such as logistics, transportation, tourism, and the establishment of new productive activities capable of sustaining development in the long term.
Within this scenario, the study mentions that strategic projects related to territorial and tourism development allow for expanding the district’s growth prospects, strengthening its capacity to attract investments, generate employment, and consolidate new value chains.
The research was led by economist Agustín Lodola and constitutes one of the most comprehensive surveys on the economic evolution of Buenos Aires municipalities, analyzing the productive dynamics of the entire province over the past ten years.
The recognition by the UNLP places San Vicente among the municipalities with the highest sustained growth in the province of Buenos Aires and constitutes an academic and independent validation of the transformation process the district is experiencing. With a management approaching seven years at the helm of the municipality, San Vicente is consolidating as one of the main development hubs of the southern corridor of Buenos Aires, combining urban growth, strategic planning, investment, and a long-term vision.
