Since October, the city of **Neuquén** has implemented surveillance cameras to **monitor critical areas** where companies and residents illegally dump **garbage** on the streets.
These measures have resulted in 17 **photo fines**, carried out by identifying the license plate and individuals committing the offense.
Effectiveness and Documentation
Francisco Baggio, Undersecretary of Environment and Citizen Protection, explained that the infractions are severe and well-documented. Despite the large budget allocated to urban cleaning, some residents continue to dump **waste in unauthorized locations**.
Strategic Location of Cameras
The distribution of cameras was a joint effort between the Undersecretary of Environment and Citizen Protection and the Undersecretary of Urban Cleaning.
The cameras were placed in areas identified as **micro landfills**, such as the Autovía Norte area and Los Paraísos street, Valentina Sur neighborhood, O’Connor street canal, and Paimun Lagoon.
Fines and Awareness
The fines aim to discourage offenders from continuing the practice of littering on the streets. The environmental photo fine has proven beneficial for the municipality, complementing other **environmental protection actions**.
Since October, 17 **environmental violations** have been recorded, identifying both individuals in vehicles and on foot. In some cases, it was companies dumping debris outside the Neuquén Environmental Complex (CAN).
