This is because historically, cats moved from their homes to hunt wild prey, so they did not depend on humans for their food.
For this reason, it is essential that they know the territory around them, as it is vital for their survival, as they still retain this instinct despite the passage of time and domestication. This explains why they get nervous when the place where they feel safe and the position of their food and drink are changed.
## **What happens with dogs?**
The domestication of dogs was different, as humans gained their trust by offering them food, which made them more dependent on their owners. That is, the safety focus of these animals is on people. This would have to do with their descent from wolves, animals that move in packs and have a social hierarchy, causing dogs to intensify their tutors as reference figures, as they depend on them for food.
In addition, these pets differ from felines due to their social behavior, as dogs see humans as part of their pack, so they will seek constant company and affection from their tutors, just as they would with their canine companions. This is what generates an emotional dependence, unlike cats that do not have that pack instinct so they do not generate the same bond with their owners.

A study conducted by researchers from the University of Lincoln showed that independent cats did not change their behavior during the absence of their caregiver, while more attached cats showed noticeable signs of distress in the absence of their caregiver, whom they saw as a “secure base”.
