The fire started last Wednesday. Due to the adverse weather conditions of the previous day, the fire advanced towards the north end of Lake Martin, reaching an area previously affected by a fire in 2022, where multiple hotspots are recorded.

For safety reasons, the trails located in the south and central areas of the protected area have been closed.

How the brigades are working

To plan operational actions and technically analyze the fire behavior, the affected area has been divided into the following sectors:

• Sector 1: Los Manzanos (fire tail)
• Sector 2: Laguna Quetro (between Cerro Alcorta and Cerro Colorado)
• Sector 3: Cerro Colorado
• Sector 4: Cerro Bastión

This weekend, 69 agents of the National Parks Administration (APN) are deployed to fight the fire.

Among them, 27 firefighters, three members of logistical staff from the ICE Department, five park rangers, a medical assistant, one Risk Management staff from APN Central, three infrastructure personnel, eight from the administration, 20 agents from the Forest Fire and Emergency Fighting Directorate (Dlife), and a driver for transporting the firefighters.

Also participating are 17 firefighters from the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Service (Splif) of Río Negro: seven from the El Bolsón center and ten from the Bariloche center.

Meanwhile, National Gendarmerie personnel provide security at the helipad on Pampa del Toro, on Route 40.

The operation also involves personnel from Civil Protection Bariloche and currently uses ten ground vehicles and four aerial means from the National Fire Management Service.

Thus, there are two helicopters (Bell 412 and Bell 407) and two firefighting planes (currently on standby).

Deployed resources:

  • Personnel: 64 agents from the National Parks Administration (APN), including firefighters, technicians, and logistics personnel, along with teams from institutions such as the Army, Gendarmerie, Coast Guard, and volunteer firefighters.
  • Ground means: 19 vehicles, including trucks and boats.
  • Aerial means: Two Bell helicopters, two AT-802 water bomber planes, and a Boeing 737, making constant water drops on the most dangerous hotspots.
