The ambitious wind energy project being promoted in Argentina

Most read

An ambitious wind energy project began to take shape in Argentina. Hand in hand with the local company PCR and the local subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Acindar, an important step was taken in the development of renewables.

It consists of a new park that will be located in Olavarría, Buenos Aires province, and will have an installed capacity of 180 megawatts in its first phase.

What the Ambitious Wind Energy Project in Olavarría is Like

The companies submitted a request to register their wind farm project under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), approved this year. This is a regulatory framework promoted by the government to encourage high-impact projects in the country.

The wind energy megaproject. The wind energy megaproject.

The new park, which will be in Olavarría, will have an installed capacity of 180 megawatts in its first phase.

According to the companies and as reported by Infoenergía, the generated energy will be used to supply the industrial plants of ArcelorMittal Acindar. Thus, the aim is to strengthen sustainability and emission reduction.

Why this is a Strategic Project

The Olavarría park stands out as a strategic project due to its installed capacity, but also for its impact on the country’s energy matrix.

In addition to the project in Olavarría, the companies have plans to expand the San Luis Norte Park, incorporating a solar park with a capacity of 18 megawatts. This additional energy will also be destined for the Acindar industrial plants.

The project also represents a milestone in collaboration between national and international companies to promote sustainability. ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steelmakers, has intensified its efforts to reduce carbon emissions in its operations, and this wind farm is a concrete example of its strategy.

PCR, for its part, reaffirms its leadership in the development of renewable energy projects in Argentina. The company played a key role in the energy transition of the country, with a diversified portfolio that includes wind, solar, and hydroelectric energy.

The Olavarría park will not only contribute to emission reduction, but also generate employment and stimulate the economy during its construction and operation.

Following in Uruguay’s Footsteps?

Uruguay is a pioneer in renewable energies and confirmed this by ranking fourth worldwide in wind and solar generation last year.

Uruguay is a leader in wind energy. Uruguay is a leader in wind energy.

Only Luxembourg, Denmark, and Lithuania surpassed the neighboring country, according to a report by SEG Ingeniería, based on data from UTE and Our World in Data.

With a proportion of 48%, the country became the best in Latin America in this area, mainly thanks to the development of wind energy, in a ranking where the only other remaining country in the region is Chile, with 32%.
