With extreme temperatures, the thermometer heats up and in a large part of the country, the first heatwave of 2025 begins. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), this Monday the City of Buenos Aires and 14 other provinces are under a yellow alert due to extreme temperatures.

According to the SMN, the areas affected by extreme temperatures are:

  • Large part of the Buenos Aires territory, except for the Atlantic Coast

  • Entre Ríos

  • Corrientes

  • Misiones

  • Formosa

  • Chaco

  • Salta

  • Santa Fe

  • Santiago del Estero

  • Córdoba

  • La Rioja

  • San Luis

  • La Pampa

  • Mendoza

Extreme Heat in the City: Weekly Forecast

According to the SMN forecast, this week in the City of Buenos Aires, temperatures will increase. This Monday the sky will be partly cloudy, with north winds and temperatures between 22 and 33 degrees.

Similar conditions are expected for Tuesday. The sky will be partly cloudy, with north winds and temperatures between 23 and 34 degrees. In the evening, gusts of up to 40 kilometers per hour are expected.

On Wednesday, the thermometer will continue to rise, with a minimum of 24 degrees and a maximum of 35 degrees, accompanied by north winds. No rain is expected for any of the three days.

Thursday is expected to reach the maximum temperature record of the week, with a minimum of 27 degrees and a maximum of 37 degrees, with north winds.

Starting from Friday, a slight temperature drop is expected, following the forecast of isolated storms, lowering the thermometer to a minimum of 25 degrees and a maximum of 32 degrees.

On Saturday, temperatures will be below 30 degrees, with a minimum of 23 degrees and a maximum of 29 degrees. While on Sunday, temperatures will drop one more degree.

What each level of alert for extreme temperatures implies

  • Yellow Alert: Mild to moderate health impact. Implies that temperatures can be dangerous, especially for at-risk groups such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

  • Orange Alert: Moderate to high health impact. Temperatures can be very dangerous, especially for at-risk groups.

  • Red Alert: High to extreme health impact. Temperatures are very dangerous and can affect all individuals, even those who are healthy.

Health Ministry recommendations for extreme temperatures

Recommendations for these events, according to the Health Ministry, are:

  • Increase water consumption without waiting to be thirsty to maintain adequate hydration.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, especially during the central hours of the day (between 10 am and 4 pm).

  • Pay attention to babies, children, and elderly people.

  • Avoid caffeinated, alcoholic, or very sugary drinks.

  • Avoid very heavy meals.

  • Consume vegetables and fruits.

  • Reduce physical activity.

  • Wear light, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing; hat and dark sunglasses.

  • Stay in ventilated or air-conditioned spaces.

It is important to remember that there is no pharmacological treatment for heatstroke. Only the mentioned classic methods can prevent and counteract it.
