The governor of Jujuy, **Carlos Sadir**, together with the Minister of **Environment and Climate Change**, **María Inés Zigarán**, officially announced the **acquisition of nearly 15 thousand hectares** for the creation of the **Provincial Natural Park “La Reina”**, located in **Paraje San Juan de Dios**, San Pedro Department.
The project arises thanks to the **land donation** made by the **Banco de Bosques Foundation**, with the support of **German donors**.
## An environmental commitment on Earth Day
During the event, Sadir described the park as a valuable space for the province, highlighting the **joint work** of public and private actors.
In this sense, Minister Zigarán emphasized that the creation of the park is **historic** and reaffirms Jujuy’s commitment to:
– Biodiversity conservation.
– Protection of key ecosystems.
– Fight against climate change.
## A biodiversity refuge with tourism potential
The Provincial Natural Park “La Reina” houses an extraordinary ecological diversity, representing the different altitudinal levels of the **Yungas**:
– Transition forest and mountain forest.
– Mountain forest and mist grasslands.
Its geography includes water systems with streams that flow into the **Lavayén-San Francisco river**, creating an important **network of water and wildlife**.
With over **333 species of flora, 275 bird species, and 36 documented mammal species**, it is expected that future research will **expand these records**.
## Next steps: consolidation and sustainable development
The governor submitted the **park creation project** to the provincial **Legislature** for its official **approval**.
Once the law is passed, a process will begin for:
– Participatory development of a Management Plan.
– Area planning and zoning.
– Development of tourist infrastructure and trails.
– Generating opportunities for local communities.
Simultaneously, organizations are working to **secure funds** to condition natural spaces and promote **nature tourism**.
## A conservation model with global impact
The president of the **Banco de Bosques Foundation**, **Emiliano Ezcurra**, celebrated the initiative, highlighting that it will ensure the **preservation of thousands of species** and the **reduction of carbon emissions**.
The project also has the support of **VisionNetZero GmbH**, an entity that researches the **ecosystem’s impact on mitigating climate change**.
The creation of Parque La Reina positions Jujuy as a **reference in conservation**, promoting a **sustainable model** that could be replicated nationally and internationally.
