Beekeepers are on alert in Lago Puelo. It’s because recently 20 bee hives died in the area of the Radal roundabout, on Provincial Route No. 16.

Both producers and environmentalists expressed their concern and requested explanations about what happened, as there are suspicions that it may be due to the use of pesticides.

In response to what happened, the municipality intervened immediately. Janina Martínez, Production Director, informed local media that they visited the area and called in specialists from INTA, SENASA, and the Ministry of Production of Chubut to investigate the case.

“We want to know what happened. There is talk of agrotoxins, but we need concrete evidence,” emphasized the official.

Martínez also recalled that Lago Puelo recently became the first municipality in Chubut to promote agroecology. This is an approach that seeks to protect the environment.

“Bees are small, but their role on the planet is enormous. That’s why we take this issue very seriously,” she stated. For now, they are awaiting the results of the investigations to clarify the causes of what happened.

The affected producers made it clear that they are not seeking financial compensation, but rather to ensure the care of bees and their ecosystem function.

The owner of the farm where the hives that died were located highlighted how important bees are for the ecosystem, as they play a key role as pollinators and guarantors of biodiversity.

She also pointed out that it is essential to comply with regulations that prohibit the use of pesticides, especially in crops such as hops and raspberries.
