Members of the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Cádiz have rescued a dog, named Cercei, who fell into the water near the port of Chipiona frightened by the fireworks launched on Christmas Eve.
The incident led Cercei to flee from home, covering about five kilometers.
Rescue of a dog frightened by fireworks in the Port of Chipiona
The Civil Guard detailed that the service took place during the night of December 24, around 12:30 a.m., when Maritime Service agents were on duty near the port of Chipiona. In the silence of the night, the agents heard movements in the water under the boat.
Immediately, they used flashlights to have a wider visibility radius and located a dog swimming adrift. Cercei was trying by all means to climb onto some supports below the surface of the boat, called waterjets, to save himself.
A happy ending for Cercei
The agents carried out the necessary maneuvers to remove the animal and lift it onto the boat. Cercei showed clear signs of exhaustion, being “weak, exhausted, and almost fainting”, so it was necessary to carry him in arms to safely place him on the deck and give him time to rest and recover. It was unknown how long he had been fighting to save his life.
Once the animal was on the official boat platform, he was taken to the coast where he was reunited with his owner thanks to the collaboration of the Local Police of Chipiona, who was able to scan the microchip and locate the owner.
