Godoy Cruz promotes responsible adoption with a digital platform connecting pets and families in Mendoza.

The Municipality of Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, has been promoting responsible adoption of dogs and cats for over two years through Amor Animal, a digital platform that seeks to address a common issue in many cities: pet abandonment and loss. This space allows lost or stray animals to be registered, connecting them with potential adopters or their original owners.

The tool is hosted on the municipality’s Ciudadanía Digital portal and serves as a bridge between the community and those who wish to provide a responsible home. Each user can upload data, photographs, and characteristics of the animal in question, which facilitates both the search and visibility of cases.

In addition, residents who lose their pets have the option to share their information on the same platform. Similarly, those who find a dog or cat with signs of having had a family can include them in the database, thus increasing the chances of reunification.

This initiative complements other actions promoted by the municipality, such as weekly responsible adoption events held at Parque Benegas, and free services for rabies vaccination, deworming, and sterilization, which are part of a public policy focused on animal health and harmonious coexistence with the community.

## Responsible Adoption: More Than an Act of Solidarity

Adopting a pet entails a commitment that goes far beyond providing shelter. It requires ensuring proper nutrition, veterinary care, affection, and a safe space for their development. Adopting responsibly helps reduce the number of animals on the streets, an issue that impacts both animal welfare and urban environmental balance.

The benefits of responsible adoption are also reflected in public health. By promoting sterilization and vaccination, the spread of diseases is reduced, and the uncontrolled population growth of dogs and cats is managed. This contributes to a safer coexistence and the reduction of conflicts associated with abandoned animals.

Furthermore, families that decide to adopt find in their pets a unique emotional bond that promotes values such as empathy, solidarity, and respect for other forms of life. Responsible adoption experiences strengthen the community fabric by turning neighbors into active actors in animal protection.

## How to Access the Platform

To participate in Amor Animal, residents must register in Ciudadanía Digital and follow the steps indicated by the system, generating a unique access user. From there, they can access the “Portal Mascotas” and continue with the data entry process.

Likewise, those who have already registered their animals can request a free identification tag for their pets through a contact number available on the site. This element plays a key role in preventing losses by facilitating the quick identification of dogs and cats in case of loss.

With these initiatives, Godoy Cruz reinforces its commitment to animal protection and environmental care, reminding that civic responsibility is the first step towards a respectful and sustainable coexistence.
