Guatemala opens humpback whale season: what the marine watching experience is like

The humpback whale season began on the Guatemalan coasts of the Pacific, where these marine giants approach and allow a unique encounter with the oceanic fauna.

This 2026, the first tours started on January 10 from Marina Pez Vela in Puerto Quetzal.

The experience allows observing the whales in their natural habitat, swimming near the surface, jumping, and tail-slapping.

Whale season: what the observation tours are like

Ballenas Guate, the organizing group, has already scheduled specific outings for this season.

The tours aim to promote responsible visits, safe and respectful of the marine life of the Guatemalan Pacific.
