Police dismantle underground greyhound racing network: seize weapons, chemicals, and cell phones.

A police operation dismantled a network of clandestine greyhound races. Firearms, chemicals, and cell phones were seized.

The case once again highlights animal abuse and the need to strengthen controls on these prohibited activities.

The operation was carried out by the Airport Security Police (PSA), ordered by the Federal Justice. An illegal greyhound racing network was dismantled in Coronel Pringles and Tres Arroyos.

How did the network of clandestine greyhound races operate?

There are suspicions of illegal greyhound races in Balcarce.
They organized greyhound races in Buenos Aires province.

The investigation, which required several months of surveillance and intelligence work, concluded with simultaneous raids on multiple homes.

They seized weapons, mobile devices, cash, and veterinary chemicals.

Authorities indicated that the confiscated products would be used to alter the dogs’ performance through doping, a common practice in these illegal events.

Elements confirming clandestine betting and the systematic exploitation of animals were also found.

In total, several people were arrested and now face charges for violating the Animal Protection Law, illegal possession of weapons, and concealment.

Greyhound racing has been banned nationwide since 2016, following the approval of National Law 27,330. However, these clandestine practices continue to operate in rural and semi-urban areas, often on improvised circuits and with a high level of illegal organization.

Repercussions and Call to Action

This is a new blow to a criminal activity that combines cruelty, illegal betting, and organized networks of animal exploitation.

Animal protection organizations celebrated the operation and called for increased vigilance and oversight, especially in areas known for hosting these illicit competitions.

They also warned that, although there is a national law prohibiting races, its effective enforcement still faces obstacles. Mainly due to a lack of resources and local complicity in some districts.

This case reopens the debate on the need to strengthen penalties for animal abuse and to promote awareness campaigns on animal rights and the impact of these practices.
