Rosario: Creating an App to Facilitate Reuniting with Lost Pets

Rosario now has an innovative tool to help find lost dogs and cats: RescatApp, a free application designed to connect owners with their lost pets in a quick, organized, and accessible way.

This project aims to optimize community assistance by providing a structured and geolocated platform for the publication of missing and found animals.

How did the idea come about?

Victoria, in charge of the application design and testing, along with Andrés, a full-stack programmer responsible for the development, explained to Rosario3 portal that the motivation behind RescatApp was the need for a centralized tool.

On social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, the dissemination of lost pets is often disorganized. Creating an efficient and up-to-date solution that allows users to find and report pets easily is always necessary.

Features and operation of the lost pets app

The application allows users to publish detailed information about lost or found animals, including:

  • Photos
  • Specific characteristics
  • Geolocated location

It also provides filtering options to facilitate searches. Being a web app, it does not require download and can be used on any device by visiting: https://rescatapp.com.ar/

A self-managed community project

Unlike other initiatives, RescatApp does not receive financial or institutional support; it is a self-managed project. Its team is constantly working on improvements, considering suggestions from users and animal shelters, with the goal of maximizing its functionality and usefulness.

Victoria emphasizes that the platform does not aim to replace community support, but to organize and enhance it through effective technology. “RescatApp is a response from the community to the community, an attempt to turn empathy into action”, she concluded.

Impact and future

Until now, Rosario did not have a similar tool. In a context where the search for pets still relies on spontaneous viralization on social media, RescatApp represents a significant advance in managing these situations, offering a clear and effective structure for those looking to reunite with their animals.

This project highlights how technology can be used to address real issues, facilitating the connection between those in need of help and those who can provide it.
