San Juan Environment confiscated 11 birds and issued fines for illegal hunting.

In a control operation carried out in El Villicum, on National Route 40, agents from the Flora and Fauna department of the Environment Secretariat of San Juan confiscated wild birds and elements used for illegal hunting.

The intervention resulted in the seizure of traps and artificial baits, reinforcing the commitment to biodiversity protection.

Recovered birds and sanctions

During the operation, three infringement reports were issued for violations of Provincial Law No. 606-L, which regulates the use of wildlife. Among the confiscated items are:

  • 11 protected birds: eight diucas and three benteveos.
  • Seven handmade traps made of wood and wire.
  • A mist net used for bird capture.

Authorities highlighted the importance of these controls, which are actively maintained throughout the province and will be intensified during Holy Week, a period when an increase in poaching is usually recorded.

According to Ezequiel Salomón, Director of Conservation, they issued 50 infringement reports in the first months, surpassing the 32 from the same period, but in 2024. Last year, he confirmed they issued 152 infringement reports. “In the first months of the year, we already have 50 so it is very likely that we will exceed the numbers,” he recently stated in an interview with Diario Huarpe.

Warning to the public about illegal hunting

The Ministry of Environment reminded that hunting, possession, transportation, or commercialization of wildlife without authorization is punishable by law. For reports, you can contact the Environment Secretariat at:

  • Phone: 4305037
  • WhatsApp: 2644305057
  • Service hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 1 pm.

This operation reinforces the efforts to preserve native species and combat illegal hunting, ensuring the protection of wildlife in San Juan.
