The trial against the hunters who killed a jaguar in Formosa moves forward.

Last year, poachers killed a jaguar in Formosa and the local Justice is progressing in a historic oral trial.

There are four accused individuals and the hearing will begin in May. Three of the defendants were remanded in custody pending trial.

It is an unprecedented judicial measure, as representatives of National Parks described it.

“The extinction of the great American Tiger advances in Formosa: another jaguar hunted in the heart of the province,” stated the entity.

In March of this year, the court summoned preliminary hearings with the Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecution, and the defendants, for the parties to present preliminary arguments before the trial and propose procedural alternatives.

“We hope that a conviction is handed down and that the sentence serves as an example for the rest of the population. Those who hunt jaguars and their accomplices, in prison,” declared at the time Cristian Larsen, President of National Parks.

The national entity presented itself as a plaintiff in the judicial process, so that “the accused pay for their crime”.

What was the specimen like

The specimen had been detected on February 27 initially, and later, in the month of April.

This was part of the survey carried out in a key corridor for conservation, such as the Patiño department, between the Ministry of Production and Environment of the province of Formosa and the Yaguareté Project of the Atlantic Forest Research Center (CeIBA-CONICET). A large number of residents and producers collaborated and participated.
