Upon inspecting the boat, the agents found two slaughtered capybaras.

The Monte Caseros Fiscal Unit, led by Dr. Ricardo López Ruiz, did not take legal actions, but the Provincial Directorate of Natural Resources of Corrientes (formerly Flora and Fauna) intervened. This was in connection with a violation of Provincial Law No. 1.863/54.

They ordered the seizure of the boat, a nameless and unregistered metal boat, with a 6 HP motor. They found the two slaughtered capybaras, with a total weight of 80 kilograms and an estimated value of $2,300,000.

Just a few weeks ago, an alarming situation involving capybaras occurred in Santa Fe. A house was offering “capybara milanesa,” and the police rescued two capybara cubs.

This took place in the town of Pueblo Esther. The animals were caged and were taken to a veterinary clinic.

Officers from the Ecological Brigade and Animal Rescue of the Santa Fe Police intervened and found two capybara cubs in poor health and hygiene conditions.

They were in a cage and were immediately taken to a veterinary clinic for specialized care.

Additionally, they found capybara meat from an adult specimen and six dead otters in a freezer.

The police authorities are looking into possible responsibilities for the illegal slaughtering of animal species.
