A wild bird of the species Mirasol Grande (Botaurus pinnatus) was rescued on Sunday night in a house in San Miguel de Tucumán by Rural Police officers, following a report from a neighbor. The specimen, uncommon in urban areas, was having trouble moving and was exposed to attacks by local dogs.
The operation took place at a house located on Olleros street 300, where personnel from the Rural and Environmental Crimes Division No. 6 managed to intervene in time to rescue the animal. The bird, with light brown plumage and brown spots, was evaluated by the authorities before deciding on its transfer.
By order of the Flora and Fauna Directorate of the province, the Mirasol Grande was transferred on Monday to the Horco Molle Experimental Reserve, where it will receive veterinary care and specific attention until its potential reintegration into its natural habitat.
The procedure was supervised by Chief Commissioner Silvio Luna, Director General of Rural and Environmental Crimes, and was carried out in compliance with the provisions of Provincial Law No. 6,292, which protects the wild flora and fauna of Tucumán and prohibits their possession, commercialization, and mistreatment. These types of actions reinforce the importance of citizen participation and the joint work between residents and control agencies to preserve the local biodiversity.

Provincial Law 6,292 of Tucumán is the Law for the Preservation of Wild Flora, Aquatic Biological Resources, and Wild Fauna, whose main objective is to establish the regulatory framework for preservation and conservation.

The Mirasol Grande (Botaurus pinnatus), also known as bittern, heron, or large bittern, belongs to the Ardeidae family. This animal is characterized by its size, which reaches up to 70 cm, its yellowish beak, green legs, and yellow iris.
Additionally, it has a black cap, white throat, ochre neck with brown bars, anterior neck and ochre chest with reddish streaks. It also has an ochre abdomen, brownish-gray wings with ochre tips on the secondaries, a brown tail edged and spotted with ochre.
