Wild birds rescued from illegal trafficking in Corrientes will be released.

During a road control operation in San Jaime de la Frontera (Entre Ríos), authorities detected a case of illegal wildlife trafficking. When intercepting a truck, they found it was transporting endangered bird species.

This procedure was carried out in compliance with the National Law for the Conservation of Fauna No. 22,421 and the Provincial Hunting Law No. 4,841. The operation resulted in the rescue and safeguarding of the animals, which will be released back into the wild soon.

Details of the wild bird rescue operation

The vehicle, coming from Curuzú Cuatiá, Corrientes, and destined for the province of Santa Fe, was transporting seven cages of various sizes, containing specimens of:

  • Yellow cardinals.
  • Crested cardinals.
  • Rufous-bellied thrushes, among other species.

In the case of the Yellow Cardinal (Gubernatrix cristata), among the threats it faces, due to its colorful plumage and melodious song, it has historically suffered intense capture pressure for the illegal domestic trade as a cage bird.

In light of the evidence of the crime, the Chajarí Prosecutor’s Office was involved, which ordered the appropriate actions according to current regulations. Additionally, the Rural Crimes Brigade took part in the operation to enforce the provisions of the provincial law.

Wildlife protection and upcoming release

The birds were seized to ensure their protection and recovery in a safe environment. Subsequently, they will be reintroduced into their natural habitat, ensuring their well-being and conservation.

These types of operations underscore the importance of monitoring the wildlife trade and fighting against illegal trafficking, one of the main threats to biodiversity.

This case highlights the need for awareness and strict compliance with environmental laws, with the aim of preserving native species and preventing the negative impact of illicit activities on ecosystems.
