The San Juan metallurgical company Indumet is diversifying its productive matrix towards the **energy sector**, with the construction of a **solar park** for SMEs in Tamberías to sell to the national wholesale system.
The plan includes a 12 MW park, which will employ 40 people and will require an investment of 15 million dollars.
Project Origin
The idea arose after the good results of the photovoltaic production at their factory in Chimbas. In 2022, they installed panels that produce 0.525 MW on the roof of the warehouse, reducing energy expenses and carbon footprint. Motivated by these results, they decided to also bet on **renewable energies**.
Development of the Solar Park for SMEs
Indumet, together with the San Juan company Lumager Energía, developed a medium-scale project designed to **sell energy to the national power grid** and provide stability to Calingasta.
They plan to develop the total 12 MW in stages, starting with 4 MW and then another 8 MW, making it the largest small-scale park in San Juan. Construction is scheduled for 2025.

Strategy and Approvals
The initial goal is to inject energy directly into the wholesale system, although they are open to other agreements, such as **direct sales to consumers** through the Mater system or distributed generation. The project received approval at a public hearing in Calingasta and meets the requirements of the authorities and the community.
Local Development and Future
Indumet’s initiative is one of the first with completely San Juan capital in the wholesale energy market. The province currently has **21 operating solar projects**, mainly developed by EPSE and national and international companies.
With the development of this solar park, Indumet will reach a larger scale and contribute to local development in a **strategic area**.
