Afforestation in San Luis: 50 poplar trees to enhance the surroundings of Club Atlético Defensores del Oeste in the city.

As part of its provincial reforestation plan, the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development of San Luis carried out the planting of 50 poplar trees on the premises of the Club Atlético Defensores del Oeste (CADO).

The initiative aims to improve environmental quality and protect the sports facilities used by hundreds of children and young people.

Forest Curtain: Scenic Beauty and Wind Protection

Poplar trees play a key role in comfort and safety of the space.

In addition to providing aesthetic value, the poplar trees were placed as a natural wind barrier, allowing to:

  • Protect the club’s facilities
  • Reduce the impact of air currents in sports practice areas
  • Create a more comfortable environment for the premises’ users

This type of green infrastructure helps optimize the use of public spaces, especially in recreational and community areas.

Urban Trees: Allies of Public Health and the Environment

Air purification, thermal regulation, and reduction of pollutants. The Secretariat of Environment highlighted that urban reforestation has multiple benefits:

  • Improves air quality
  • Regulates local temperature
  • Reduces the impact of urban pollution

These actions not only enhance the landscape, but also directly impact population health, especially in areas with high physical and recreational activity.

Reforestation and Climate Change: An Effective Mitigation Strategy

Each tree planted is an investment in the environmental future of the community. Tree planting is a concrete tool to mitigate the effects of climate change, as they:

  • Sequester carbon dioxide (CO₂)
  • Contribute to water regulation
  • Promote urban biodiversity

“Each specimen represents a step towards a healthier and more resilient environment,” stated the environmental department.

Community Participation: Key for Lasting Benefits

Caring for trees and citizen commitment are fundamental. To ensure that the benefits of reforestation endure over time, it is essential to:

  • Engage the community in caring for the specimens
  • Promote environmental education from an early age
  • Integrate reforestation into urban and sports design

The action at Club CADO is part of a broader strategy that aims to transform public spaces into green lungs, creating healthier and more sustainable environments for future generations.
