Chubut inaugurated the first Native Wildlife Rescue Center in the province.

In an emotional event held at Estancia San Guillermo, the first stage of the Native Wildlife Rescue Center was inaugurated, marking a significant advancement in the protection and rehabilitation of wild species in Chubut.

The event was attended by provincial and municipal authorities, legislators, representatives from the scientific and academic sector, as well as entities dedicated to environmental conservation.

A strategic space for wildlife protection

During the inauguration, the Secretary of Environment of Chubut, Juan José Rivera, emphasized the importance of the center as a training space for professionals specialized in native wildlife management.

On the other hand, the Undersecretary of Conservation and Protected Areas, Nadia Bravo, highlighted that its location bordering a protected natural area facilitates interaction with the work of the Guardaparks corps, strengthening the protection of vulnerable species.

Legislative recognition and institutional support

The deputy Fabián Gandón presented the Declaration of Legislative Interest, approved unanimously, celebrating the creation of the first wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Chubut.

The director of the REFAUNAR Center, Víctor Fratto, thanked the support of institutions and companies that made the project possible, including:

  • Club de Roma Foundation.
  • Grupo La Ciudad Posible.
  • Municipality of Puerto Madryn.
  • Port Administration.
  • GENNEIA, SC Johnson, and Goldwind.

Participation of scientific and academic organizations

The ceremony also had the presence of:

  • Municipal Secretaries of Ecology and Tourism, Hernán Duplá and Cecilia Pavia.
  • Vice-Director of CENPAT, Dr. Pablo Bouza.
  • Representatives from the University of Chubut and the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco.
  • CONICET Researchers.

With this initiative, Chubut reinforces its commitment to biodiversity conservation, promoting a rescue and rehabilitation model for native species and strengthening the link between science, education, and environmental protection.
