Fires in Patagonia: How is the situation?

The fires in Patagonia continue to be active despite the moments of relief brought by the rain in some areas, such as in El Bolsón. There are multiple fire outbreaks and firefighters are working on different fronts to extinguish the fire that started on January 30.

Even in some areas, like in Nahuel Huapi National Park, the drama began in December. There are flames there and in Lanín.

In Puerto Madryn, on the other hand, they managed to extinguish the fire that started last week and contained the flames in Epuyén, in Los Alerces and El Pedregoso Park.

According to official reports released by Greenpeace, the forest fires during this summer burned 37,601 hectares of Andean-Patagonian forests.

Within that count are 450 hectares in Caviahue (Neuquén), 15,200 hectares in Lanín National Park (Neuquén), 10,233 hectares in Nahuel Huapi National Park (Río Negro), 3637 hectares in El Bolsón (Río Negro), 55 hectares in El Pedregoso (Chubut), 3530 hectares in Epuyén (Chubut), and 4496 hectares in Atilio Viglione (Chubut).

Now, in El Manso, near Bariloche, the situation is very complicated and is at risk of overflowing.

“We wake up and go to sleep every day with anxiety, fear, and uncertainty,” expressed Daia Giorlando, from the El Manso area to Página 12.

“We appreciate the help, but it really is not enough, we need water bombing planes to come, several, many, because one is not enough. And we need helicopters with water buckets, aerial elements to fight the fire,” she added.
