Polar wave alert: the coldest week of the year is approaching in CABA and AMBA

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has confirmed the arrival of a polar air mass coming from the south, which will cause a marked temperature drop in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and much of the central region of the country.

This phenomenon will mark the transition to winter, with consecutive days of extreme cold that will extend throughout much of the next week.

The cold peak: Tuesday to Thursday

The City of Buenos Aires will register its first single-digit temperature (8 °C) this Monday, April 27, but the phenomenon will quickly intensify:

  • In CABA: Critical mornings are anticipated between Tuesday and Thursday, with minimum temperatures between 0 °C and 2 °C, and maximums barely ranging between 8 °C and 11 °C. The wind chill will be significantly lower due to the wind.

  • In the Suburbs: In districts like La Matanza, Lomas de Zamora, and Moreno, the thermometer could drop to -1 °C, favoring the formation of morning frosts.

  • In the interior of the Province: Cities like La Plata, Olavarría, and Azul will face even lower values, ranging between -2 °C and 0 °C.

Climatic factors and recommendations

The phenomenon is enhanced by atmospheric stability: with clear skies and little cloudiness during the nights, the ground loses heat quickly, intensifying nighttime cooling.

Unlike other events, this will not be an isolated phenomenon. Specialists warn that the polar wave will remain constant, consolidating the first widespread frosts of the year in the Pampas region.

The population is advised to take precautions against the extreme cold, especially during the early morning hours, and to stay informed through official updates from the SMN regarding possible changes in weather conditions.
