The Buenos Aires government has completed the construction of the Honorio Pueyrredón Linear Park, a project that has transformed part of Honorio Pueyrredón Avenue into a new green space, connecting 24 de Septiembre and Giordano Bruno squares in the Caballito neighborhood. The intervention has created almost 10,000 m² of absorbent green surface, significantly expanded the pedestrian area, made crossings safer, and added new recreational spaces for thousands of residents.

“This project is essential for district 6 and one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in the city, Caballito. We have transformed over 15,000 m² of public space, adding 10,000 m² of new green surface and improving the quality of life for 84,000 people. It is an example of how to transform public space for the benefit of residents,” stated Ignacio Baistrocchi, Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene.
“We have connected the neighborhood squares through a green corridor, creating a safer, more comfortable, and sustainable environment. Now it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of it,” added Baistrocchi during a tour of the new linear park alongside the president of District 6, Federico Ballán, and other officials.
Benefits of the Project
The linear park extends along 8 blocks of Honorio Pueyrredón Avenue, between Av. Gaona and Neuquén, covering more than 23,000 m² of intervened surface. Of this total, over 16,600 m² have been transformed into new public space, including 9,556 m² of green areas and 7,000 m² of pedestrian spaces.
New Facilities and Public Spaces
The park features two inclusive playgrounds for children, three sports areas with aerobic stations and training equipment, and rest areas with benches and garbage bins, promoting outdoor activities and gatherings.
Furthermore, the expansion of the green area has included the planting of grass in thousands of square meters, over 200 new trees (oak, plane, linden, jacaranda, among others) and the incorporation of native vegetation. A sustainable urban drainage system has also been installed to filter and delay rainwater from reaching the city’s drainage network, reducing the risk of flooding.
Safety and Accessibility
The transformation of the 8 blocks of the avenue also involved relocating bus stops, maintaining parking allowed on the east side of the avenue, and adding 9 stopping bays on the other side for loading, unloading, and boarding and alighting passengers.
To enhance safety, closed areas and blind spots have been eliminated, security cameras have been added to improve monitoring, and lighting has been reinforced for better nighttime visibility. A protective barrier has been included at the edge between the play area and the vehicular lanes to prevent people, especially children, from accessing the road with vehicular traffic.
