The ecological orchard, an unwavering ally of nature: the importance of La Plata’s green lung.

On the outskirts of La Plata, an agricultural project that has been cultivating chemical-free food for over three decades is consolidating as a model of sustainable production. La Anunciación Orchard, born in 1988, is one of the pioneers in certified organic farming in Argentina. Their work promotes a more conscious, healthy, and respectful way of eating in harmony with the natural environment.

With the backing of years of experience and a philosophy focused on environmental harmony, this space offers a wide variety of products. Every leaf and flower they harvest is the result of a system free of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and transgenics. The commitment goes beyond cultivation: it’s a daily commitment to the health of the soil, the environment, and people.

Production is regulated by strict controls that guarantee the quality and traceability of each food. Daily consumption vegetables coexist with gourmet varieties, herbs, and edible flowers, all certified by SENASA. Additionally, the harvest is complemented with seasonal wild herbs, collected sustainably.

Cultivating without harming: a necessary choice

Organic agriculture, like the one practiced at La Anunciación, not only avoids chemical inputs that harm human health and biodiversity, but also strengthens ecosystems. By respecting natural cycles and promoting life in the soil, this regenerative model helps reduce pollution and species loss.

The positive impact is also reflected in those who consume these foods. As they do not contain toxic residues, organic vegetables can be eaten without fear, even raw, reinforcing the link between healthy eating and ethical production. In a climate crisis context, this practice is an active way to mitigate the effects of industrial agricultural models.

Behind each crop are hands that understand the value of caring for the land. Mariana del Pino and Eduardo Ciancia carry out this venture with the same passion as in their beginnings. Their work is a demonstration that another agriculture is possible: one that respects life, cares for health, and sows the future.

The importance of green lungs

Green lungs in cities—such as parks, urban orchards, nature reserves, or ecological corridors—are fundamental to counteract the effects of urbanization. These spaces act as natural filters that absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and capture pollutant particles, improving air quality in densely populated areas.

In addition to their environmental function, they contribute to regulating urban temperature. Vegetated surfaces reduce the “heat island” effect, common in cities with scarce tree coverage, and help retain rainwater, reducing the risk of floods. This favors a more resilient infrastructure against climate change.

They also play a key role in the physical and emotional well-being of people. They facilitate recreation, contact with nature, and promote an active life, which has a positive impact on mental and social health. Taking care of these spaces not only improves the environment but is essential for building more sustainable and humane cities.
