The province of Córdoba faced a high fire risk day on Wednesday, with active fires that had been reported in different locations. However, thanks to the hard work of the emergency teams, the flames were contained.
According to the Secretariat of Climate Risk Prevention, the main fires were located in Cañada del Rosario, on Route 36 near the Rafael García bridge, and in the area of Achiras.

Roberto Schreiner, head of the Secretariat, highlighted the work of the firefighters from Sampacho, Achiras, and Río Cuarto, who managed to control the fire with the vital support of a water bomber. Schreiner explained that the flames did not affect mountainous areas, although the tasks were hindered by strong gusts of wind.

Despite the progress, the Province issued a warning of extreme fire risk for the afternoon. Simultaneously, a dust storm affected the capital and its surroundings with wind gusts of up to 70 km/h, triggering a yellow alert.

During the morning, Schreiner also mentioned other incidents. “Near Achiras, there is one… There are firefighters from Río Cuarto, Achiras, and ETAC working there. Then we have another fire in Jesús María</b," he said. He also mentioned a fire on Route 36, between the toll booth and Despeñaderos, where firefighters from Alta Gracia worked on a stubble fire.

Environmental alert status due to fire risk
Since June 2, an environmental alert status due to fire risk is in effect in Córdoba throughout the provincial territory, until December 31 of the current year.
The period of the year with the highest risk of forest fires begins with the end of autumn and the beginning of winter after the first frosts, as low temperatures and frosts dry out the vegetation, turning it into highly flammable material, especially in valleys and mountain ranges.
The provincial decree that established the environmental alert status expressly prohibits “the lighting of any kind of fire and any activity that may lead to the start of fires.”
