Volunteers from La Pampa conduct a cleanup day at Laguna Don Tomás to reinforce environmental commitment

With gloves, bags, and picks to remove plastics, members of the Sri Sathya Global Council Foundation of Argentina conducted an environmental cleanup day. The meeting point was the Recreational Park Laguna Don Tomás.

The event began on Saturday at 6 PM at the bridge located between the three lagoons. From there, the group advanced along the shore collecting waste.

Bottles, wrappers, and floating plastics were manually removed. As a result, numerous bags of waste were gathered.

Additionally, neighbors spontaneously joined the activity. Even fishermen collaborated by handing over waste they had collected.

Community Service and Personal Transformation

The foundation, non-partisan and non-profit, promotes social actions. Among them, environmental cleanup and solidarity assistance.

The approach combines spiritual growth with community service. Therefore, the environmental action is part of an integral practice.

Volunteers came from Buenos Aires, Neuquén, General Roca, Bahía Blanca, and General Pico. Thus, the event gathered participants from different parts of the country. A 12-year-old girl also joined with her father. Motivated by reducing pollution, she received gloves and joined the team.

Healthy Ecosystems and Less Pollution

The group emphasized that healthy ecosystems preserve biodiversity. In contrast, trash degrades habitats and threatens species.

The waste in bodies of water affects birds, fish, and vegetation. Additionally, they release microplastics that persist for decades.

The cleanup helps restore the environmental balance. It also improves the landscape quality and recreational value of the park.

In urban areas, these actions reduce pollution hotspots. Therefore, they strengthen the relationship between the community and nature.

Benefits of Environmental Cleanup Campaigns

The campaigns have a direct impact on waste reduction. However, their reach goes beyond occasional collection.

They promote environmental awareness and changes in daily habits. Consequently, they encourage individual and collective responsibility.

They also strengthen environmental education in children and young people. Early participation consolidates values of care and respect. Moreover, these initiatives promote social cohesion. Shared work reinforces community identity.

In contexts of climate crisis, every local action counts. The cleanup of Laguna Don Tomás demonstrates that citizen commitment can translate into concrete improvements for the environment.

Biodiversity in Laguna Don Tomás

The Recreational Park Laguna Don Tomás hosts an urban ecosystem of great ecological value. Its lagoons and grassland areas support a biodiversity adapted to the semi-arid Pampean climate.

On its shores, you can observe water birds such as herons, ducks, and coots. Additionally, the reed beds and riparian vegetation provide shelter for amphibians and small reptiles.

The presence of fish and aquatic insects completes the local food chain. Therefore, the conservation of the wetland is key to maintaining the environmental balance in the city of Santa Rosa.
