The Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of San Luis has now assumed the position of president of the Council Federal de Medio Ambiente (COFEMA).
He was elected during the Assembly of Renewal of Authorities on May 15th.
Ministers of environmental portfolios from the 24 jurisdictions of the country clearly recognized the environmental policy of the province, which, they claim, is becoming a national benchmark in the field.
### Who is the new president of COFEMA?
“I thank Governor Claudio Poggi for trusting me to lead the destiny of the environmental portfolio of the province of San Luis, a special thanks to my team, and to my whole family,” Cacace emphasized in his first message.

The new head of the environmental agency acknowledged the management of MartÃn Recaman (Misiones) during 2024. Additionally, he paid tribute to [Pope Francis for his enormous environmental commitment](https://noticiasambientales.com/medio-ambiente/el-papa-francisco-y-su-compromiso-en-la-lucha-contra-el-cambio-climatico/) and teachings on the care of “our common home.”
“COFEMA comes to discuss environmental policies, so we have to set aside partisan politics; I know it’s harder to do than to say,” he said.
“It is important to share experiences and implement good practices. Copying is not bad, if there is something that works in one province, we can apply it in another,” he remarked.
Cacace, a lawyer and lecturer in Environmental Law at the National University of San Luis, has been in charge since December 10, 2023, of heading the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development of our province.
Juan José Rivera, head of the environmental portfolio of Chubut, will accompany him as vice president.
### What is COFEMA?
COFEMA is the prime space for the coordination of environmental policies in which the Nation, provinces, and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires participate.

This organization has federalism as its guiding principle and recognizes as its main objective to collaborate in the generation of an integrated environmental policy between the provinces and the federal government.
