A business in Colombia sells wines to help street dogs.

An innovative project emerged in Colombia and became a success: they sell wines to help street dogs. It’s called “Vagabundo Wines“, and it was created by Fadia Badrán, an industrial designer and manager of Grupo Madero.

She states that she was inspired by the love she feels for animals. She even drew inspiration from her own story, with a companion she had as a pet for 12 years.

Meet Vagabundo Wines, the wine venture to help street dogs

Vagabundo was born in 2018. Badrán had the idea of launching a wine that would remind people of the anonymous stories of animals living on the streets and, at the same time, financially support their rescue.

With the help of a photographer, she toured neighborhoods in Cartagena to capture images of the dogs living on the streets, who would later become the protagonists of the unique wine labels.

After the necessary procedures and time, in 2021, the first bottles of Vagabundo became a reality.

Currently, Vagabundo wines are the favorites among animal advocates and environmental organizations. Through tastings, dinners, and individual consumption, they find the perfect excuse to drink wine and help less fortunate animals.

Types of Wines They Sell

You can find eight different types of bottles from Vagabundo, each with different grape varieties and characteristics.

There are bottles of red wine with Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Carmenere, Merlot, and Syrah grapes; white wines with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes; and even a Syrah Rosé for lovers of rosé wines.

How Do They Help Street Dogs?

The venture collaborates with street dogs in various ways:

  • By donating a percentage of Grupo Madero’s profits for sterilization or rescue campaigns.
  • Organizing tastings where the contribution can be a bag of food or various donations required for each project.

The details of these charitable actions vary according to Badrán’s findings.

All information on these campaigns, tastings, and initiatives can be found on the Instagram account @VagabundoWines.
