The Santafesina Agency of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Asactei) and National University of Litoral (UNL) announced the financing of 12 projects within the framework of the call “UNL-Conicet, Network Projects for scientific and technological research on priority topics of high regional impact.”
Out of the 28 projects submitted, these were selected for their high technical quality and alignment with the prioritized topics jointly established between the Province of Santa Fe and UNL, with a total budget of $134 million.
Highlighted scientific projects
Among the projects with the highest scores are:
- “Production of Biomolecules from Brewer’s Spent Grain”, led by Silvina Drago, exploring the development of foods and supplements with prebiotic and antioxidant properties.
- “Functional Ingredients and Foods from River Fish Waste”, headed by Claudio Bernal, focused on the commercial viability of functional foods derived from waste in the fishing sector in the Center-North of Santa Fe.
- “Climate Change and Dengue Vector”, under the direction of María Soledad López, seeking interdisciplinary strategies for decision-making in public health regarding climate change and dengue spread.
Innovation and networking
The call aimed to promote research projects oriented towards economic, social, and environmental challenges in the Center-North Littoral region of Santa Fe.
The networking modality, which integrates academic units, researchers, and productive sectors, allowed the generation of synergies and the leveraging of local capacities in key areas such as:
- Sustainable food production.
- Agricultural digitization and artificial intelligence.
- Innovation in biotechnology, sustainable fishing, and aquaculture.
- Circular and regenerative economy, alongside energy efficiency.
The Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Erica Hynes, emphasized the value of coordinated work: “This first co-financed call with a public university demonstrates that network cooperation can optimize resources and achieve better results.”
Innovation Laboratory: Identifying Priority Topics
In June 2024, an innovation laboratory brought together government actors, universities, and productive sectors to identify strategic topics.
This allowed aligning proposals with specific demands, maximizing their impact in the region and contributing to sustainable development.
