The San Francisco Volunteer Firefighters have strengthened their commitment to the environment through a comprehensive recycling program that has been running for over five years.
This project focuses on minimizing the environmental impact of events held at the Gigante de Bomberos, managing to reintegrate tons of materials such as plastic, paper, cardboard, and glass into the circular economy.
Highlighted sustainable actions
- Plastic management: Plastic jugs from events are collected, bagged, and sent to the local recycling plant.
- Paper and cardboard recycling: Separation and proper treatment of all waste.
- Glass reuse: Bottles are sorted and recycled due to their ability to be reprocessed indefinitely.
- Digital tickets: Implementation of an online system to reduce paper usage.
- Elimination of straws: Prohibition of plastic straws, reducing their environmental impact.
Recognition for environmental commitment
Thanks to these initiatives, the San Francisco Recycles Cooperative awarded the Volunteer Firefighters a distinction last year for their sustained effort in environmental management.
Luciana Marchi, president of the cooperative, praised the continuity of the project and highlighted its positive impact on the community. On the other hand, Javier Panero, president of the institution, reaffirmed their commitment to move towards a sustainable headquarters.
