Electromobility in Mexico: 100,000 electric vehicles will prevent more than 47,000 tons of CO₂ by 2025

The adoption of electric vehicles in Mexico already shows concrete benefits. According to the Electromobility Barometer of the Electro Mobility Association (EMA), the nearly 100,000 electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and extended-range vehicles acquired in 2025 will prevent the emission of 34,865 tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) in one year of operation, by replacing trips that would have been made by internal combustion vehicles.

By adding the green trips of platform taxis, the avoided emissions reach 47,334 tCO₂e, which is equivalent to the replacement of 385 million kilometers traveled without local emissions. This impact directly contributes to the improvement of air quality and the efforts of transport decarbonization, especially in urban areas with high vehicle concentration.

Distribution of reductions

  • 28,330 tCO₂e correspond exclusively to electric vehicles.
  • Plug-in hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles provide additional reductions.
  • Zero local emission trips, mainly carried out through digital transport platforms, avoided 12,469 tCO₂e by completing more than 101 million kilometers without tailpipe emissions.

Urban and health benefits

Beyond the figures, the EMA Barometer highlights the everyday impact: each electric journey replaces local emissions in cities, reducing pollutants associated with respiratory diseases and creating a healthier urban environment.

Expansion of charging infrastructure

The charging network reached a total of 56,726 positions in 2025, with an annual growth of 26%. This expansion enables the continuous use of electric vehicles and maximizes their positive environmental impact.

For EMA, the trend confirms that electromobility is consolidating as a structural tool to reduce the environmental footprint of transportation.

Measurement methodology

The calculation of avoided emissions was carried out based on international climate measurement methodologies, supported by a digital platform specialized in carbon quantification.

EMA had the technical support of the external consultant Bono, who collaborated in the measurement and calculation of emissions associated with the electric vehicle fleet.

Financing and market growth

During 2025, companies participating in the financing of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles recorded 10,802 credits, doubling the results of 2024. This growth reflects the growing interest of consumers and companies in accessing clean and sustainable technologies.

EMA Statements

The president of EMA, Eugenio Grandio, highlighted:

“Each kilometer traveled in electric mode represents a concrete step towards cleaner air. At EMA, we agree that access to efficient and sustainable technology is a priority for the companies that make up the Association. We will continue to promote the adoption of electric vehicles with data-based information, allowing consumers and authorities to make informed decisions to accelerate the decarbonization of transportation.”

Electromobility in Mexico already generates measurable climate benefits, with significant emission reductions and improvements in urban air quality. The growth of the electric vehicle fleet, the expansion of charging infrastructure, and the doubled financing in 2025 consolidate this model as a strategic pillar for the energy transition and the fight against climate change.
