Homes with Sustainable Materials: The New Eco-Friendly Bricks

More and more people are choosing to build their homes with sustainable materials, not only for their benefits to the planet, but also for their cost, as they are less expensive than traditional ones.

Facing this new initiative, the Cordoba-based startup EcoMateriales decided to revolutionize construction with bricks. For this, they created ecological bricks aimed at addressing two current issues: plastic waste accumulation, and the lack of affordable housing.

The benefits of these bricks lie in their durability and fire resistance, but also in the price, as they are much more affordable than regular bricks. These advantages represent a significant step for the environment, as well as for the economy of the residents, who can build their home without a significant financial burden.

The sustainable bricks were designed with the goal of minimizing the environmental impact caused by plastic waste, which takes years to degrade, given that only a small percentage of generated waste is recycled.

How are homes built with sustainable materials?

To assemble the bricks for sustainable homes, the Cordoba-based company cleans, shreds, and molds plastic waste using a special technique, resulting in bricks ready for construction.

Furthermore, these highly resistant bricks are characterized by weighing less than traditional ones, making transportation logistics easier. According to the startup, one of the goals was to build at least about 50 social housing units using this system in a short period of time.

It is worth noting that this method reduces the amount of plastics ending up in landfills, rivers, and oceans, polluting both soil and water. Therefore, the creation of these bricks will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to the traditional manufacturing of cement bricks.
