The ecological road project to Machu Picchu includes measures to mitigate environmental impact, such as drainage systems that prevent soil erosion and an innovative design that respects the conservation areas nearby.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), environmental impact studies have been conducted to ensure that the project will not significantly affect the region’s biodiversity.
Tenth Anniversary of the China-Latin America Shared Future Community
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Latin America and the Caribbean Shared Future Community. To commemorate this, the International Communication Development Center of the China International Communication Group has released the documentary “The Story of Synergy”.
This is the first season of a series of thematic documentaries under the slogan ‘Protecting the Blue Planet – Companies in Action’, showcasing China-Latin America business cooperation projects and China’s efforts in building a shared future community with Latin America over the past 10 years.
The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu in Peru extends from the Andes to the Amazon jungle, encompassing 24 different ecosystems. This area is not only home to numerous endemic species but also where biologist Elena works, overseeing every corner of nature.
In 2021, upon learning that the construction of the road to Machu Picchu was about to begin, Elena joined the project team of the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, to ensure that the construction would not harm the fragile ecosystem.
Environmental Protection Measures in Construction
The China project team has implemented various measures to minimize environmental impact, including establishing construction exclusion zones, manually cleaning the surface, and waste classification and treatment.
A third party will also be periodically tasked with evaluating water sources, noise, and dust along the construction line to ensure minimal impact on the environment.
International Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
Elena expressed gratitude for the efforts of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation team, considering that working with them to build the road has been the most significant thing in her 30 years dedicated to ecological conservation.
This road not only brings blessings and hopes but also symbolizes progress towards a brighter and more prosperous future alongside the local community.
