San Luis: 80 Volunteers Join the Environmental Brigade

The environmental department of the province of San Luis is incorporating volunteers in all administrative and operational environmental management units to form an assistance brigade for disasters and emergencies.

“The objective of the Environmental Brigade is to assist environmental emergencies. There are already more than 80 registered volunteers who will receive training,” said Julio César Medina, head of the Fire Prevention and Fighting area.

These volunteers are workers from the Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat units: nurseries, waste recovery plants, and administrative offices who, in addition to their regular work, will receive training in emergency assistance.

Training and Organization

This group will be a team of trained workers to react to any emergency. These volunteers are organized not only to respond to emergencies but also to anticipate situations, develop contingency plans, and even follow up on the recovery process after an emergency. Training is crucial.

Training in first aid, fire extinguisher use, and evacuation programs are key to being prepared and able to guide other colleagues in situations requiring their service.

Emergency Preparedness

“We are very pleased with the team because after so much effort, the conditions are coming together for us to form this group of environmental brigadiers, with the aim of being able to act in emergency situations related to both floods and fires. Particularly in this case, we focus on forest fires, knowing that we are in the peak season for such events,” concluded Medina.
