The Ministry of Environment of San Luis has intensified its controls to prevent the circulation of firewood without authorization, implementing a permit system that seeks to regulate the family and commercial use of forest resources.
Since 2024, those who wish to collect firewood for domestic consumption can request a “social coupon”, which allows the extraction of 150 kilos per week, always with the authorization of the landowner.
New regulations on firewood circulation and recent cases
The Provincial Flora department recently reported the detention of three vehicles in Villa Mercedes, whose occupants did not have the proper permits or the firewood transport guide. According to Juan Fernández, department head, the measure seeks to ensure compliance with the law without ignoring the country’s difficult economic situation.
“We try to help beyond the requirements, but it is essential to respect the regulations on firewood exploitation”, emphasized Fernandez.
Requirements for the social coupon
The social coupon aims to facilitate access to firewood for familiar use at no cost. The requirements include:
- Written authorization from the landowner where the firewood will be extracted.
- Personal information of the applicant: ID, name and location of the use.
- Police certification of the authorization.
Each coupon is valid for 24 hours, preventing improper successive uses, and allows a maximum of 600 kilos per month per person.
Regulations for commercial use
For establishments that sell or store firewood, the requirements are more stringent.
Interested parties should contact [email protected], where they will be informed of the specific conditions according to the number of hectares and volume marketed.
Pending sanctions
Currently, those who do not comply with the regulations may face the confiscation of the firewood, although a fine has not yet been established, which is under evaluation.
The tightening of controls aims to balance forest conservation with equitable access to natural resources, ensuring that firewood extraction is done sustainably and within the legal framework.
