With the approach of winter, the “I Am Because We Are” Foundation, also known as “Soporte”, continues with its seventh year of the Social Stoves project.
It is a solidarity initiative that seeks to provide safe heating solutions to families who do not have access to heated environments.
A project with community impact
Since its creation, the program has managed to install 470 stoves in 87 neighborhoods, providing warmth and functionality to homes in vulnerable situations. According to Soporte, starting work in advance is key to have the stoves already installed by May and June.
The project emerged between 2018 and 2019, with the development of the first prototype by the Pablo Tavelli Industrial Institute in Mar del Plata. In 2019, Cáritas Cristo Rey manufactured the first 20 stoves, and since 2020, Soporte has taken the lead in the initiative.
How do social stoves work?
The installed stoves serve a dual function:
- Heating homes.
- Serving as a kitchen, maximizing their utility.
In addition to improving quality of life, the design aims to prevent accidents, reducing risks of carbon monoxide poisoning and possible fires.
Generating work in neighborhoods
The project not only benefits families, but also generates employment in different neighborhoods, as entrepreneurs and workshops participate in the production of stoves.
Organizations such as Cáritas and the Civil Association Supertenedores actively collaborate to sustain the initiative, with the support of Pablo Baldini, an event producer.
How to collaborate
From Soporte, they invite the community to help by spreading the project on social networks. Instagram: @Soportemdp, where progress and collaboration opportunities are posted.
Those who wish to make donations to help warm families can do so through the alias Luz.Manto.Cereza of the I Am Because We Are Foundation.
The Social Stoves project demonstrates how collaboration between organizations and citizens can change lives, providing practical and accessible solutions to face winter.
